APBF Author Romeo Oriogun Wins Two Awards
Romeo Oriogun has won the 2024 Nebraska Book Award in Poetry for his book, The Gathering of Bastards. The book, which chronicles the movement of migrants as they navigate borders both internal and external, was praised by Ilya Kaminsky as a “soul-making” book that will “survive the test of time.”
Sponsored by the Nebraska Center for the Book and the Nebraska Library Commission, the Nebraska Book Awards celebrate outstanding books that are written by Nebraska authors, published by Nebraska publishers, set in Nebraska, or concerning Nebraska.
The 2024 Nebraska Book Awards presentation ceremony will be held on October 12, 2024 in conjunction with the 2024 Celebration of Nebraska Books. The festivities will take place at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus Union and will feature readings by some of the authors.
The Gathering of Bastards book has also been named the winner of the 2023 Julie Suk Award, which was established to honor the best poetry book published by a small, literary, or university press.
The Gathering of Bastards was published in 2023 by the University of Nebraska Press under the African Poetry Book Series. The series is administered by the African Poetry Book Fund. The APBF celebrates Mr. Oriogun on these awards!
