Koleka Putuma’s Amazing Internet Initiatives

APBF Staff October 27, 2020

One past Luschei Prize winner, Koleka Putuma, who took home the award in 2018, has been keeping quite busy in 2020. She released an audiobook version of the Luschei Prize-winning Collective Amnesia. She launched [BLACK GIRL LIVE], a fund designed to assist black, queer womxn theatre practitioners and poets based in South Africa who are struggling financially, psychologically, or spiritually. She appeared in a video collaboration with filmmaker Irene Moray entitled “Normal.” She hosted a discussion with Sho Madjozi on her YouTube page, featuring discussions of their respective creative practices and much more. Putuma did all of this while also managing to maintain an active blog and a dynamic social media presence. Operating as an artist on the internet can be quite tricky, so if you ever find yourself in need of some inspiration, just spend a bit of time and catch yourself up with whatever Koleka Putuma is up to. You won’t be disappointed.
